Call for Abstracts

The 2024 ALA Conference Committee invites submissions for individual paper and poster presentations for the forthcoming annual conference.

This year’s conference theme is:   Shaping Lymphatic Health 

Abstract focus

Submissions should align with one of the following presentation styles:

  • Research abstract: Research abstracts report on formal, structured research projects. Where relevant, abstracts should include description of particular patient group, n, sample size calculation or justification, outcomes of interest, timing of assessment and intervention, statistical or qualitative approach used in analysis, results including presentation of effect size, CI, p values, and clinical relevance.

  • Clinical practice abstract: These abstracts may address a clinical quality project and the research underpinning the practice change. Abstracts should include a description of the particular patient group involved, n, outcomes of interest, timing of assessment, and intervention developed/evaluated.

  • Case study abstract: Case study abstracts may address complex or unusual clinical cases. Abstracts should address diagnosis/presenting problem, intervention clearly described (including timing), key findings, results and/or implications.

Submission streams

Submissions are welcome addressing any of the following content streams:

Assessment of lymphatic disorders and associated conditions

  • Risk detection and reduction

  • Imaging and diagnostics (including genetics)

  • Obesity and concomitant disorders

  • Venous issues impacting on the lymphatic system

  • Paediatric and primary lymphoedema

  • Psychosocial/quality of life and qualitative research

  • Functionality assessment, management and improvement

  • Lymphoedema other than limbs: H&N, torso, and genital oedema.

  • Basic science and biology

Current and new management strategies for lymphatic disorders

  • Medications and lymphatics/lymphoedema

  • Surgical and other options; including liposuction, anastomoses and LN transplant

  • Nutrition

  • Conservative compression treatments and activity

  • Infection identification and management

  • Treatment targeting and sequencing

Health service delivery

  • Service development/gaps in practice

  • Service evaluation

  • Health economics

  • National and international policy, guidelines and/or initiatives

  • Innovative and promising approaches and technologies including Telemedicine and AI

  • Equitable access to services

Patient-centred approach

  • Educational initiatives (patient/practitioner and public)

  • Patient/carer/partner roles including self-management

  • The patient as individual

  • Outcome measures – measuring success or otherwise of treatment

  • Translational or implementation research

  • Consumer engagement or co-design research


Important Dates

Mid September: Call for Abstracts opens

22 November 2023: Abstract submission cut-off date - CLOSED

December 2023: Confirmation of acceptance of abstracts

7 December 2023: Registration opens

22 March 2024: Early bird registration closes

1 May 2024: Pre-Conference workshops + tours

2-4 May 2024: 15th ALA Conference

5 May 2024: Post-Conference tours


Abstract Submission Process

Authors will receive acknowledgement of receipt of abstract submission, and notification of review outcome will be made according to stated key dates.

All abstracts must be submitted in accordance with guidelines outlined in this document, and must be accompanied by the author information form provided. Abstracts not submitted in accordance with guidelines will not be accepted.

Structure

Abstracts limited to strictly 300 words.

Your abstract must be in the format of:
• INTRODUCTION/BACKGROUND
• METHOD/PRESENTATION
• RESULTS/OUTCOME
• CONCLUSION/CLINICAL IMPLICATIONS

Guidelines for Online Submission and Conditions

The submitting author needs to create an account and then enter their contact details.  Enter your email address and remember your password as this will be the same submission process to enter your registration.

Step 1: Create New Account

You will be asked for:

Email Address and a Password and ENTER create new account.

NB Once these details have been logged into the system you can upload multiple abstract drafts and/or clinical grand round case presentations.

ABSTRACT SUBMISSION

This page will take you through the process of submitting your abstract. 

  • Each of the tabs on the left hand side of the page will bring up a step in the submission process that needs to be completed. If you see a X against an orange step, it means it is yet to be completed.

  • At any time in the process you can click the Save As Draft button to save your incomplete submission and return to it at a later time.

  • The Review section will give you an overview of the sections that are still required to be completed before you can submit your abstract.

  • Once all required sections have been completed, you can submit your abstract.

Step 2: Abstract Title and Presentation Type

Enter Abstract title in Title Case (not upper case) – Word limit: 50.
